Why did this luxury hotel create its own brand of gin?

Back in 1915, when it was distasteful for women to enjoy alcohol publicly (can you imagine?), a heroic bartender at Raffle Singapore's famous Long Bar created a gin-based drink coined the Singapore Sling. This rose hued "punch" made it acceptable (at long last!) for the ladies to join their gentlemen for a libation. Quickly gaining in popularity, the historical cocktail was an absolute game changer and became widely known as the national drink of the country.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Singapore Sling (and to inspire the next generation of elite mixologists), a bespoke gin was created for Raffles Hotels by Sipsmith, whose co-owner happens to be a decendent of Sir Stamford Raffles himself. It's name? Raffles 1915, of course, and it was declared the best gin the distillery has ever made.
